Sports Mole takes a look at who Liverpool could face in the quarter-finals of the 2021-22 Champions League ahead of Friday's draw.

Liverpool have made it through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the second season running following a 2-1 aggregate victory over Inter Milan in the last-16.

Despite seeing their lengthy unbeaten streak at Anfield come to an end in the second leg, a 2-0 San Siro success propelled Jurgen Klopp's side into the last eight of the competition, with the draw taking place on Friday morning.

There are a few familiar foes in the hat for the last eight, starting with Premier League title rivals Manchester City, whom they saw off in the quarter-finals of the 2017-18 tournament as they battle for top-flight supremacy with Pep Guardiola's men domestically.

Liverpool and City are two of three Premier League sides still in the competition, with reigning champions Chelsea facing a potential first Champions League meeting with the Merseyside giants since the 2008-09 season.

Across the pond, Liverpool could look to glean revenge on 2018 final opponents Real Madrid after being eliminated by the capital side in last year's quarter-finals - recording four losses and a draw from their last five Champions League games versus Los Blancos.

Not far from the Santiago Bernabeu lies reigning Spanish champions Atletico Madrid, who sent Liverpool packing in the last-16 of the 2019-20 edition, but the Reds won both group games by an aggregate scoreline of 5-2 earlier this season.

A mammoth of a tie with Bayern Munich could also await Liverpool, who have only lost one of their previous nine meetings with the Bavarian giants - a 1971 Cup Winners' Cup defeat - and the Reds won 3-1 at the Allianz Arena as recently as 2019.

Perhaps the tie that Liverpool fans will be most pining for comes in the form of Benfica, although the Portuguese side eliminated the Reds from the Champions League in 2005-06 and saw off Ajax to get this far, so they are certainly not to be underestimated.

Finally, ex-Arsenal manager Unai Emery and his Villarreal side are lying in wait after a dominant showing against Juventus, with the two sides only meeting twice before in the 2015-16 Europa League semi-finals - the Yellow Submarine won 1-0 at home before Klopp oversaw a 3-0 Anfield success en route to the final.
