Jose Mourinho confirms Fernando Torres absence

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho confirms that Fernando Torres will miss Wednesday's Champions League clash with Schalke 04 due to injury.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Fernando Torres will miss Wednesday's Champions League clash with Schalke 04 due to injury.

The striker sat out the team's training session on Tuesday after picking up a muscle problem during Saturday's defeat at Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Mourinho also expects Torres to be sidelined for this weekend's encounter with West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge.

"Fernando Torres is out, we need to wait for the scans tomorrow," the Chelsea boss told reporters.

"It is easy to say he is out tomorrow and Saturday too and then comes the international break. Let us see if he can recover in that period."

Defender Ryan Bertrand has also been ruled out for the match against Schalke in Group E.
