John Terry defends conduct of Chelsea players in Paris Saint-Germain defeat

Chelsea skipper John Terry admits that "it does not look great" when he and his teammates surround referees, as was the case in last night's defeat against PSG.

Chelsea skipper John Terry has defended the behaviour of his teammates after they were criticised for pressurising referee Bjorn Kuipers during last night's Champions League meeting with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Blues repeatedly surrounded the Dutch official when they felt decisions had gone against them, with nine outfield players trying to make their point to the man in the middle at one stage.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Oscar in the first half of the feisty affair, accused Chelsea's players of 'acting like babies'.

However, Terry insists that, while it may "not look good at all", surrounding referees is now simply a part of the game.

"Once they're charging the ref, the only thing we can do is respond," the former England international is quoted as saying by The Guardian. "You can't, as a group of players, let them surround the ref, trying to get our players booked.

"For me if I have to run 20, 30 yards, it doesn't look great, but when you're standing back and seeing five or six of their players surrounding the ref - for me, I think I support my teammates.

"And once I go, four or five go with me. It doesn't look good at all, but that's part of the game. We'll match it if people want to mix it, that's part of our game as well."

Chelsea went on to lose the game on aggregate following a 2-2 draw on the night at Stamford Bridge, bringing to an end their hopes of lifting the Champions League this season.
