Stephane Henchoz: 'Arrogance costing Rafael Benitez'

Stephane Henchoz says that the players at Chelsea do not like Rafael Benitez because of his arrogance.

Former Liverpool defender Stephane Henchoz has blasted Rafael Benitez for being too "arrogant", and claims that nobody liked him during his time at the Reds.

The Spaniard has endured a turbulent tenure since being appointed as Chelsea's interim manager in November, with frequent abuse from the Blues supporters culminating in Benitez revealing that he will leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

Henchoz, who was managed by the 52-year-old at Anfield, insists that he only has himself to blame for the outcome of his time at Chelsea.

"I think he's a very good manager because he knows a lot about football and the details. The only problem for me is his man management and I'm not surprised things aren't going well at Chelsea," Henchoz told talkSPORT. "I think he has some arrogance about him, the way he speaks to the players and the way he treats the players, is not always the best.

"Even if you are professional you would like the manager to have a few words and speak to you. He only speaks to you when he needs you or wants something from you.

"Even Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher who spent a lot of time with him, didn't like him that much. When Roman Abramovich signed him as Chelsea manager, I was sure that things would not go smoothly."

Benitez guided Chelsea to a 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
