Lionel Messi: 'Team titles more important than individual accolades'

Lionel Messi has insisted that winning trophies with Barcelona is more important than any individual awards and records.

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has insisted that winning trophies with his club is more important than any individual awards and records.

Barcelona lost out on the two key trophies last year - La Liga to Real Madrid and the Champions League to Chelsea - and Messi believes that his goal is to win titles with Barca, not break goalscoring records.

"I am not looking to beat my level of goals," Messi told Marca. "This isn't my objective. My objective is to win titles and this for us is fundamental.

"I try to improve every year. I try to continue my level and continue growing with the team and the players we have. I always try to take advantage of the moment and I hope that this year will be the same and I won't have to lose any games."

Messi scored 73 goals in all competitions last season.
