Former Portugal international Paulo Futre believes that Cristiano Ronaldo has done enough to succeed Lionel Messi as the best player in the world and win the Fifa Ballon d'Or.

Former Portugal international Paulo Futre believes that Cristiano Ronaldo would be a worthy winner of the Fifa Ballon d'Or award.

Ronaldo is believed to be the favourite to lift the prestigious award following a personal record of 60 goals in all club competitions as Real Madrid lifted their first Liga crown since 2008.

The Portuguese maestro has also been in fine form at Euro 2012, firing his side to the semi-finals with three goals.

Futre claims he has seen enough to warrant Ronaldo succeeding Lionel Messi as the best player in the world.

"After his goal against Czech Republic, you have to give the Ballon d'Or to him now," Futre told RNE. "He has done more than Lionel Messi, he has broken the balance at the Euros.

"If he wins the Euros, he will become the best player in the history of Portuguese football."

Portugal face Spain on Wednesday evening for a place in the Euro 2012 final.
