Jose Mourinho: 'Nemanja Matic has improved'

Jose Mourinho says that the returning Nemanja Matic has become "a fantastic all-round midfielder" during his three years with Benfica.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has welcomed the return of Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic.

The 26-year-old completed his £20.8m move from Benfica earlier today, three years after departing Stamford Bridge as part of the deal that saw David Luiz arrive in West London.

"I am very pleased that Nemanja is returning to Chelsea," PA quotes the Portuguese coach as saying.

"He has grown as a player in Portugal and has become a fantastic all-round midfielder. I am sure he will become a very important member of the squad and help us to achieve our ambitions."

It was Carlo Ancelotti who originally signed Matic from Slovakian side Kosice in 2009.
