Nigerian defender Kenneth Omeruo reveals that he wants to fight for a place in Chelsea's first team next season.

Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo has revealed that he will avoid surgery on a dislocated shoulder to take part in pre-season training next month.

Omeruo suffered the injury during Nigeria's 3-0 defeat to Spain at the Confederations Cup, but the defender has insisted that he wants the opportunity to impress incoming coach Jose Mourinho.

The 19-year-old told KickOffNigeria.com: "I had the option of surgery, which would keep me out for three months, or to just rest it. I decided I would rest it.

"I want to be part of the pre-season with Chelsea, and I hope that I can do well enough to stay there and not go out on loan again.

"I'm sure he will be looking at all of his options now, and if I work hard enough, I can make it hard for him."

Omeruo spent last season on loan at Dutch club ADO Den Haag, where he made 36 appearances.
