Mauricio Pochettino reportedly tells friends that he would be interested in becoming the new Chelsea head coach should the position become available.

Mauricio Pochettino reportedly intends to push for the Chelsea job if it becomes available in the future.

The Argentine has been out of work since losing his role at Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season, a consequence of the club's last-16 exit from the Champions League.

Pochettino subsequently missed out to Erik ten Hag for the Manchester United job, that process taking place while he was still at Parc des Princes.

More recently, the former Tottenham Hotspur boss has been linked with replacing Gareth Southgate as England manager if the current incumbent makes the decision to leave his position.

However, according to Football Insider, the 50-year-old is paying attention to any developments which may or may not occur at Stamford Bridge.

Graham Potter was only named as the replacement for Thomas Tuchel in September, the Englishman initially putting together a nine-match unbeaten streak at the beginning of his reign.

Nevertheless, four defeats have followed in five matches, three of those losses coming in the Premier League to extend their winless run in the top flight to five games.

Chelsea are now in a position where they sit in eighth position in the standings, eight points adrift of the top four albeit with a fixture in hand.

Since the West Londoners suffered defeats to Brighton & Hove Albion, Arsenal and Newcastle United, it has still been claimed that Potter's role at Chelsea is not under threat.

Co-owner Todd Boehly is reportedly happy to give the 47-year-old time to put is own stamp on Chelsea, regardless of whether Champions League football for next season is achieved.

However, the report says that Pochettino has told friends that he would be interested in replacing Potter if Boehly and fellow club officials have a change of heart.

As it stands, Potter will be given the upcoming Christmas and New Year period to try to change Chelsea's fortunes for the better, their next two league matches being against Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest.

A top-flight and FA Cup double-header with Manchester City then lies in wait for Potter and his squad before a London derby away at neighbours Fulham.
