Andre Schurrle: 'Jose Mourinho wanted me to stay at Chelsea'

Andre Schurrle reveals that Jose Mourinho told him that he wanted the player to stay at Chelsea before he left for Wolfsburg in January.

Andre Schurrle has revealed that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho wanted the German to stay at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old signed a four-and-half-year deal with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg last month after falling down the pecking order at Chelsea.

Despite the £24m move being sanctioned, Schurrle has revealed that Mourinho was keen to keep the winger within his ranks.

"Wolfsburg is perhaps a lesser a club and I thought about it long before accepting," Schurrle told Bild. "I could have stayed at Chelsea, Mourinho wanted me to.

"I consulted the German coach Joachim Low about Wolfsburg and he said that it would be a great destination for me."

Wolfsburg are currently second in the Bundesliga table.
