Fulham head coach Marco Silva reportedly emerges as a surprise candidate to replace the recently-sacked Graham Potter at Chelsea.

Fulham manager Marco Silva is reportedly among the candidates to succeed Graham Potter at Chelsea.

The Blues announced the sacking of Potter on Sunday evening, firing the 47-year-old after just seven months and 31 games in charge.

Potter had been facing calls to be given the boot by disgruntled fans for some time, but co-owner Todd Boehly retained faith in the Englishman throughout a prolonged sticky patch.

Chelsea entered the international hiatus on the back of a four-game unbeaten run in all tournaments, but they returned to losing ways with a 2-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa on Saturday.

With that result leaving the Blues 11th in the Premier League table, the club ultimately pulled the trigger on Potter, apparently leaving players stunned by the decision.

Bruno Saltor - a former right-back for Brighton & Hove Albion - has been placed in interim charge, and ex-Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann has emerged as an early favourite to take the reins on a permanent basis.

The 35-year-old - who was sacked by Bayern last month - may not make a decision on his future until the summer, though, while Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid are also after his services.

Should their pursuit of Nagelsmann fail to bear fruit, The Mirror claims that Fulham head coach Silva is also on the shortlist of possible successors to Potter amid his eye-catching exploits with the Cottagers.

The former Everton, Watford and Hull City boss took over at Craven Cottage in the summer of 2021 and immediately led the London club back into the Premier League with the Championship title in tow.

Upon their return to the big time, Fulham have made waves in the top half of the table and are outside contenders for a European place, sitting in 10th spot - one better off than Chelsea - and four points adrift of the top seven.

The 48-year-old's achievements at Craven Cottage have supposedly earned him admirers from within the walls at Stamford Bridge, but he is under contract with Fulham until the end of next season.

Silva has a record of 43 wins, 16 draws and 25 defeats under his belt from 84 games in charge of the Cottagers, but Fulham's last four games in all tournaments have ended in defeat.

As well as Silva and Nagelsmann, former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is also thought to be under consideration for the role, having been out of work since being relieved of his duties by Paris Saint-Germain last year.

The Argentine was initially thought to have been holding out for a call from Tottenham to return in place of Antonio Conte, but he has supposedly now been informed that he is not in the running for the Lilywhites job.

Bruno's first game as interim head coach for Chelsea comes at home to eighth-placed Liverpool on Tuesday evening.
