Tottenham Hotspur's Benoit Assou-Ekotto attempts to quieten rumours that suggest he will join Chelsea next month.

Tottenham Hotspur full-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto has played down speculation that has linked him with a move to Chelsea next month.

Reports this weekend had claimed that Chelsea's interim manager Rafael Benitez had identified the Cameroon international as the best option to replace Ashley Cole, who is expected to leave Stamford Bridge on a free transfer during the summer.

However, Assou-Ekotto has described the ongoing rumours as "paper talk".

"I have a contract until 2015 with Spurs and I do not know if they want to sell me, so for me it is paper talk," he told Sky Sports News.

The 28-year-old joined Spurs from Lens in 2006.
