Barcelona reportedly fell short in their attempt to sign full-back Marcos Alonso from Chelsea on transfer deadline day.
The Catalan giants were said to be seeking cover for Junior Firpo, who has struggled for starts and was expected to move on late in the window.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo suggests that Barca made an approach for Alonso on Monday, but the Blues rejected their offer.
It is claimed that Chelsea felt there was too little time to bring in a replacement and therefore had no choice but to keep hold of the Spaniard.
Alonso was handed just his fourth Premier League appearance of the season by new boss Thomas Tuchel last week and marked it with a goal.
