Romelu Lukaku will reportedly return to Chelsea after the conclusion of this season, with Inter Milan unable to finance a deal to extend the player's stay in Italy.
The 29-year-old joined Inter on loan from Stamford Bridge for this season but has struggled with injuries on his return to the San Siro, managing just 18 appearances in Serie A so far.
Despite being sidelined for periods of the season, the Belgium international has provided some telling moments for his side, scoring in the Champions League over the past month against both Porto and Benfica.
According to the Daily Mail, Lukaku is set to return to Chelsea at the end of this season despite him wanting to extend his stay in Italy with the Nerazzurri.
The report adds that the Italian giants are under financial pressures after recording losses of over £650m in the past decade, meaning they perceive a deal to bring the forward back to the club next season as too expensive.
Lukaku and his Inter teammates will be looking to secure their passage into the last-four stage of the Champions League on Wednesday night when they welcome Benfica to the San Siro.
