Cowdenbeath, Dunfermline Athletic reach Scottish Championship playoff final

Cowdenbeath and Dunfermline Athletic set up a meeting in the final of the Scottish Championship playoffs with victories on Saturday afternoon.

Cowdenbeath and Dunfermline Athletic set up a Scottish Championship playoff final against each other by recording aggregate victories on Saturday afternoon.

Dunfermline, who trailed Stranraer following a 2-1 defeat in the first leg of their tie, had to wait until the 59th minute to find their opening goal as Andrew Geggan levelled the scores on aggregate.

Extra time was required to separate the two sides, and Geggan managed to strike again in the 98th minute to hand the advantage to his side.

Faissal El Bakhtaoui completed the victory in the 103rd minute to ensure they meet Cowdenbeath, who had a much easier task of reaching the final.

Cowdenbeath's 2-1 aggregate advantage was extended in just the first minute of their second leg against Ayr United when Kane Hemmings edged them a step closer to reaching the final.

Greig Stewart made it 2-0 on the afternoon, before Michael Donald pulled a goal back for Ayr before half time.

The hosts never seemed to be troubled in the second half, and they managed to complete a 5-2 aggregate triumph by making it 3-1 in the 52nd minute when Kevin O'Brien beat David Hutton.
