The 22-year-old is believed to have been an interest of Eagles boss Dougie Freedman, who finished the season with Palace in 17th spot in the Championship table.
While the Saints return to the Premier League next season, Martin is expected to stay in the second division of English football with the Eagles on a temporary basis.
The defender has been at St Mary's since 2009.
