Derby County forward Johnny Russell out 'for several weeks'

Derby County forward Johnny Russell is set for a spell on the sidelines after injuring his hamstring.

Derby County have revealed that they could be without Scottish forward Johnny Russell for a number of weeks because of a hamstring injury.

The 24-year-old has been a key player in Derby's promotion push this season, appearing in all 26 Championship games and scoring six league goals for the Rams.

However, he is now set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up the knock during the FA Cup fourth-round victory over Chesterfield on Saturday.

"He felt his hamstring in the second half against Chesterfield so we've sent him for a scan and we'll wait to see what the results are," Derby coach Paul Simpson told the club website.

"At the moment, we feel that it will be weeks rather than days and it will be something we have to take on the chin and deal with."

Meanwhile, Derby have also revealed that midfielder George Thorne is close to a first-team return after six months out with an anterior cruciate ligament injury. The 22-year-old is due to play for the Rams' Under-21 outfit tomorrow.
