Derby County are officially relegated to League One after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Monday afternoon.

Derby County have been officially relegated to League One after a 1-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Monday.

Wayne Rooney's side held out for 88 minutes at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium before Luke Amos slotted home past Ryan Allsop and Tom Lawrence was given his marching orders in the dying embers.

Derby had to match or better Reading's result against Swansea City to stave off the threat of relegation for a little bit longer, but the Royals dramatically levelled in the 95th minute versus the Swans through Tom McIntyre to salvage a 4-4 draw.

As a result, Derby have been consigned to third-tier football for the first time since 1986, with their 21-point deduction proving fatal amid a spate of respectable performances.

Rooney has guided the Rams to 13 wins, 13 draws and 17 losses from 43 Championship games so far, which would see Derby sit 17th in the rankings without their deduction.

Derby are still 23rd in the table, but Barnsley - who have not been relegated just yet - are only one point behind Rooney's men having played a game fewer.
