Scott Carson looking forward to Derby County challenge

Scott Carson says that he is looking forward to challenging for the first-choice goalkeeper's position at Derby County this season.

Derby County goalkeeper Scott Carson has said that he is ready to fight for his place in the team.

The 29-year-old has joined the Rams on a two-year deal after leaving Wigan Athletic.

Carson will compete with Lee Grant and Kelle Roos for the number one jersey at the iPro Stadium, but the former England international says that new head coach Paul Clement will give everyone a fair chance to impress.

"When a new manager comes in, I think there's always a fresh approach. He will want to make his mind up and see things through his own eyes," Carson told Whitehaven News.

"It is up to every player in the squad to work as hard as they can and show the manager that they deserve their place in the team, from one to 11.

"There's a new manager here, who has been coaching at the very top, so that was another reason for coming. I've still got high aims, personally, and I think he can help me achieve those and improve my game."

Carson has also played for Leeds United, Liverpool, West Bromwich Albion and Bursaspor during his career.
