Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack criticises England for playing with negative tactics against France.

Former Germany international Michael Ballack has criticised England's tactics during their Euro 2012 opener against France yesterday afternoon.

The Three Lions collected a 1-1 draw from the encounter in Donetsk despite conceding large amounts of possession to their opponents.

While analysing England's first showing at the tournament for ESPN, Ballack slammed Roy Hodgson's side for the defensive manner that they employed for significant parts of the match.

"I'm really disappointed with the game. England wanted the point and they got one, but is this the way to play football in the future? I'm not sure," said Ballack.

"If you're parking three buses in front of the goal, that's not football.

"They're sitting back most of the time with 10 players, it's difficult for every team to create chances. I'm not impressed."

The 35-year-old spent four seasons up until 2010 in the Premier League with Chelsea.
