Frank Lampard admits that he "never expected" to play every game for England.

Frank Lampard has accepted that he may not play every England game after he was dropped by Fabio Capello.

The Chelsea midfielder lost his place in the starting lineup in the Three Lions' 3-0 win over Bulgaria last week.

The 33-year-old returned to the side for England’s victory over Wales, but admits that he is willing to be benched in the future.

"People like to give off the idea that players are expecting to play every game and we've never been like that," Lampard said.

"We're all professionals and driven, and our egos are only our desire to succeed individually and as a group, and we haven't quite done that for England.

"It should be competitive and I've had phases before where I've sat on the bench for England. The furore I tried to stay away from this week and just tried to keep my head down and concentrate.”

The midfielder, who has not been dropped from England’s starting XI for four years, insisted that he is happy to sit on the bench.

"I don't mind. I'm very proud to play and I'll play as long as I can contribute for England - and I feel I can do that," he added.

The Three Lions remain at the top of Group G in the Euro 2012 qualifying stage.
