England had the best of the play in a goalless first half of this evening's Euro 2016 Group E qualifier against Slovenia at Wembley.

England controlled the early stages but did not create a real opening until the 17th minute when Wayne Rooney, on his 100th international appearance, teed up Raheem Sterling, who could only drag his shot wide from the edge of the area.
Shortly after, Rooney had his first sight of goal when a Danny Welbeck knockdown sat up invitingly, but he blazed the half volley high and wide.
Slovenia then had their first chance from a corner, with Milivoje Novakovic powering a near-post header wide of the mark.

Welbeck was England's lead striker and had two decent openings after the half-hour mark. Both missed the target as first he headed wide before misfiring from 20 yards when a return pass to Rooney might have been the better option.
