Matt Le Tissier praises positive England

Matt Le Tissier praises England for their positive attitude during Monday's 2-0 victory over Switzerland in Euro 2016 qualifying.

Former England international Matt Le Tissier has praised the team for their positive attitude during Monday's win over Switzerland.

The Three Lions got their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign off to a winning start last night thanks to a 2-0 victory in Basel.

With manager Roy Hodgson having come under pressure for his negative tactics in recent games, Le Tissier believes that the veteran coach got it right against the Swiss.

"It was nice to see so many forward-thinking players on the pitch," he told Sky Sports News. "I think the diamond formation with two up top was a good way to go because I think – although Switzerland are ranked number nine in the world – Roy looked at it and thought 'they're actually not that great'.

"It was encouraging. It was the toughest, on paper, game in the group. From that point of view it was a brilliant start for us. In terms of coming of age I think we'll see that over the next couple of years."

England play their next qualifier on October 9 when they welcome San Marino to Wembley Stadium.
