England move up seven places in FIFA rankings

England move up seven places into 10th in the latest edition of the FIFA world rankings.

England have moved up seven places to 10th in the latest FIFA world rankings.

The leap follows the Three Lions' successful qualification for next summer's World Cup in Brazil as they beat Montenegro and Poland to guarantee their spot in the tournament.

However, the improved position is not enough to put England among the top seeds for the World Cup, meaning that they will face one of the top eight seeded teams in the group stages.

Those teams are largely determined by the FIFA rankings as well, although host nation Brazil will be automatically seeded despite sitting 11th in the rankings, while Uruguay will only be seeded if they reach the tournament through the playoffs.

Scotland have climbed 28 places into 35th following their 2-0 win over Croatia on Tuesday, while Wales, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland are 44th, 60th and 90th respectively.

Top 10 FIFA ranked teams:

1. Spain
2. Germany
3. Argentina
4. Colombia
5. Belgium
6. Uruguay
7. Switzerland
8=. Holland
8=. Italy
10. England
