Steven Gerrard "embarrassed" to equal Bobby Moore record

England skipper Steven Gerrard admits that he is "embarrassed" to equal Bobby Moore's haul of 108 international caps.

England captain Steven Gerrard has admitted that he is "slightly embarrassed" at equalling World Cup-winning captain Bobby Moore's number of international caps.

Gerrard will make his 108th appearance for the Three Lions when they face Germany in a friendly at Wembley tomorrow night, bringing himself level with Moore as the joint-third most capped player in England history behind only Peter Shilton and David Beckham.

"I'm very proud and slightly embarrassed as well - you are talking about a World Cup-winner and an iconic figure, someone who was a hero to everyone in the country," Gerrard told reporters at a pre-match press conference.

"I'm really humbled and flattered to get to 108 caps alongside Bobby Moore. To equal his record is a fantastic achievement; my family and I are very proud. But, for me, the important thing is to try to get the right result against Germany. Then I can look back on it with fond memories.

"Every time you play against Germany you want to win the game. I don't think tomorrow is about revenge, or trying to put right what went wrong. We want to win the game, keep trying to improve and try to build on the recent performances against Montenegro and Poland."

England manager Roy Hodgson confirmed his team for tomorrow night earlier today, with Gerrard's Liverpool teammate Daniel Sturridge joining him in the starting XI.
