Carlos Sanchez believes that Colombia can overcome England in the last 16 of the World Cup even if talisman James Rodriguez does not feature.

Colombia midfielder Carlos Sanchez has stressed that his nation can overcome England in the last 16 of the World Cup on Tuesday even if James Rodriguez does not feature.

The Bayern Munich loanee limped out of the 1-0 win over Senegal and had been a doubt to take on the Three Lions in Moscow, having previously been carrying a niggle going into the tournament.

A scan for Rodriguez has been arranged for this weekend, with the South Americans expected to have a better indication of the 26-year-old's fitness by the end of Sunday.

Sanchez believes that Los Cafeteros are still capable of beating Gareth Southgate's side, telling Sky Sports News: "If there is not James there is another one who can make a difference.

"Everyone has the level to play and be here; I have the full confidence (we) will work as a team to achieve the result that will take us to the next phase."

Rodriguez, the 2014 World Cup Golden Boot winner, missed training on Friday.
