Everton 0-1 Arsenal

Arsenal move into third place following a 1-0 win against Everton at Goodison Park.

Arsenal have moved into third place following a 1-0 win against Everton at Goodison Park.

It took the Gunners only eight minutes to take the lead as Thomas Vermaelen got in front of Marouane Fellaini to head in Robin van Persie's corner.

Their lead was nearly doubled minutes later, but Van Persie's low effort was pushed away by Tim Howard in the Everton goal.

The Toffees should have been level when Royston Drenthe collected Tim Cahill's pass before firing in. However, the Dutchman was wrongly ruled out for offside.

Arsenal had time for one last chance before the break as Tomas Rosicky's powerful volley was tipped away by Howard.

Van Persie continued to be a threat after the interval, and his low drive cannoned back off the post.

The away side eased the pressure on their opponents for much of the second half, but Everton were unable to mount a serious attacking threat.
