Evian continued to grow in confidence as the game progressed, and were able to break the deadlock just after the hour mark, as Cedric Barbosa drilled the ball in from an Olivier Sorlin through-ball.
Nantes tried to push for a quick equaliser, but the home defenders were well organised, twice leaving their opponents offside.
Daniel Wass was able to double Evian's advantage with just over 10 minutes left to play, curling the ball in from a 20-yard free kick.
Itay Shechter tested Jesper Hansen with a powerful strike in the final minutes of the match, but was unable to give Nantes some late hope.
The result leaves Evian in 17th, five points clear of the relegation zone, while Nantes sit 14th.
