Giuseppe Rossi's agent Federico Pastorello has revealed that the Fiorentina striker could return from injury "in six or seven weeks".
The Italian international was taken off during his side's 1-0 win over Livorno, with initial fears that he had damaged his anterior cruciate ligament.
Tests conducted have shown that he has instead suffered a second degree lesion to the collateral medial ligament, but will be given a definitive diagnosis when he visits specialist Professor Richard Steadman in Colorado.
"It looks like a sprain with damage to the collateral ligament. We really got away with this one," Federico Pastorello wrote on Twitter.
"In six or seven weeks he could be back on the pitch."
Rossi is currently the top scorer in Serie A this season with 14 goals.
