A first-half own goal from Fulham midfielder Harrison Reed handed West Ham United a 1-0 victory at Craven Cottage in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The result has seen David Moyes's side move into 13th position in the table, three points clear of the relegation zone, while Fulham stay 10th, with the Cottagers losing their fifth straight match in all competitions.

West Ham made the breakthrough in the 23rd minute of the contest, with Reed deflecting a low Jarrod Bowen cross into the back of his own net from close range.

The goal was the only real incident in the opening half of action, with both teams struggling to work the ball into their forward players during an uneventful first 45 minutes at Craven Cottage.

The Hammers had a chance to double their advantage in the 56th minute when Bowen released Danny Ings into a dangerous position, but Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno was on hand to make a smart save.

Said Benrahma was next to try his luck for the visitors in the 77th minute, with the attacker just curling wide of the target after finding space in a dangerous area.

Fulham had a rare opportunity of their own in the 83rd minute when Carlos Vinicius found Andreas Pereira, who attempted to round Lukasz Fabianski, but West Ham's goalkeeper did brilliantly to tip the ball away.

Both sides had chances to add to the scoring late on, with Fabianski keeping out a header from Tosin Adarabioyo before Leno denied Bowen down the other end of the field.

Maxwel Cornet passed up a huge opportunity to net a second for West Ham in the final exchanges, firing straight at Leno from a dangerous position, but Moyes's side still managed to secure a vital three points in their bid to stay in the Premier League.

West Ham will now switch their attention to the Europa Conference League, preparing to travel to Gent on Thursday for the first leg of their quarter-final, before hosting Arsenal in the league next Sunday.

Fulham, meanwhile, will be aiming to return to winning ways when they travel to Everton next Saturday.
