Rio Ferdinand tells Marco Reus to "be strong"

Former England defender Rio Ferdinand offers his sympathy to Marco Reus upon learning that an ankle complaint will rule the German out of the World Cup.

Rio Ferdinand has expressed his sympathy towards Germany attacker Marco Reus.

It was confirmed earlier today that the 25-year-old would play no part in this summer's World Cup because of the ankle injury that he suffered during last night's 6-1 win over Armenia.

Having missed out himself for England in 2010 with a knee complaint, former Manchester United centre-back Ferdinand has urged the stricken Reus to "be strong".

"Sorry for Marco Reus. I know the feeling bro. Use this setback as fuel next season. Be strong," Ferdinand wrote on Twitter.

Sampdoria defender Shkodran Mustafi has been selected as Reus's replacement.
