Spanish police investigate Segunda Division match-fixing claims

Spanish Football League president Javier Tebas confirms that the police have been asked to investigate a match-fixing allegation.

The Spanish Football League has confirmed that police are investigating claims that a Segunda Division match was subject to match-fixing.

Hercules coach Quique Hernandez has accused a Sabadell defender of "selling himself" during a match between the two sides in March, which Hercules won 3-1.

LFP president Javier Tebas told AS: "Recorded conversations have come to light and the league is aware of them. The Sabadell coach, Mr [Lluis] Carreras, informed the league about the conversations, and we have informed the police and filed a complaint to the Spanish Football Federation.

"The conversations took place in May, the Federation and the police know about it and it will be subject to legal process.

"We want a clean sport and so sanctions should be put in place, such as automatic relegation or points deduction. Our sport and our competition must be clean."

Sabadell finished the season 16th in the league, one place ahead of Hercules.
