Hibernian put four past hapless Rangers

Goals from David Gray, Jason Cummings, Scott Robertson and Liam Craig help Hibernian record a 4-0 win over Rangers in the Scottish Championship.

Hibernian have moved to within four points of second-placed Rangers following a 4-0 win over the Gers in the Scottish Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts took the lead after just eight minutes when a loose header from Rangers defender Lee Wallace fell to the edge of the box and David Gray rattled an effort into the top corner.

Four minutes later, Hibernian had their second as Jason Cummings bundled home from close range following a volley across from the box from Liam Craig.

Rangers continued to struggle as the half developed, with Craig causing problems down the right for the home team. Hibernian had the chance to make it three after 34 minutes, but Cummings's long-range strike was palmed away by Steve Simonsen.

Rangers introduced Kris Boyd at the interval and the experienced forward made a difference in the opening 10 minutes of the second period, with his presence creating a shooting chance for Nicky Law, but his effort was blocked on route to goal.

Boyd had a chance of his own just before the hour mark, but could only thrash wide following a mix-up inside the Hibernian box.

Hibs scored their third minutes later, however, when Scott Robertson danced into the Rangers area before finishing under a helpless Simonsen.

Rangers had the chance to cut the deficit after 67 minutes, but Law saw his close-range effort cleared off the line by Liam Fontaine. Danny Handling then had an opportunity down the other end to make it four, but fired wide from close range as the match began to open up.

A fourth for the hosts did arrive after 70 minutes, however, when Craig placed one into the bottom corner following more hapless defending from the visitors.

Both sides had chances to add to the scoring in the latter stages, but the score remained 4-0 on a miserable day for the visitors.
