Huddersfield Town announce that they have parted company with head coach Danny Schofield, who was only promoted to the role in July.

Huddersfield Town have announced that they have parted company with head coach Danny Schofield.

The 42-year-old is highly-regarded behind the scenes at the John Smith's Stadium due to the impact that he made on the backroom staff under Carlos Corberan.

His standing at the Yorkshire outfit resulted in being promoted to the role of head coach when Corberan made the surprise decision to resign from his post in July.

The Spaniard's departure came just over three weeks before the start of the new Championship campaign, which the Terriers were beginning with a home fixture against Burnley.

Despite being Championship playoff runners-up, Huddersfield were thoroughly outplayed by the Clarets, and it set the tone for things to come.

As a result of Tuesday evening's 2-1 defeat at home to Wigan Athletic, Huddersfield sit in 23rd position in the second-tier standings, five points adrift of safety.

Only a Coventry City side - who have played three games fewer than Huddersfield - are placed below them in the table.

In total, Schofield won just one of his nine games in charge, losing seven, and the club's hierarchy will now look to bring in a fresh face.

A club statement read: "Danny Schofield has today been relieved of his duties as Head Coach of Huddersfield Town.

"The decision was made after Tuesday evening's Sky Bet Championship defeat at home to Wigan Athletic, which took our competitive record during Danny's time as permanent Head Coach to one win and one draw in nine competitive matches.

"Everyone at the club would like to thank Danny for his hard work and dedication and wishes him the very best for the future."

Narcis Pelach and Paul Harsley will take temporary charge of the team against Cardiff City on Saturday.
