Ivory Coast play down Yaya Toure World Cup fitness fears

The Ivory Coast calm fears that Yaya Toure will not be fit for the World Cup in Brazil next week.

The Ivory Coast Football Federation have calmed fears that Yaya Toure may not be fit for the nation's campaign in the World Cup, which gets underway in Brazil next week.

The Manchester City midfielder was absent from his side's warm-up match against El Salvador, which resulted in a 2-1 victory for the Ivorians in the United States.

According to the Daily Mail, in response to fitness concerns, the club released a statement saying: "Yaya Toure has not presented any alarming signs as regards his fitness but the technical staff of the Ivorian team wants to rest a player who has come through injury and had a tiring season."

Toure trained with his teammates during the week, but also spent time away from the group to train on his own.
