Massimiliano Allegri full of praise for "extraordinary" Gianluigi Buffon

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri pays tribute to the "extraordinary" Gianluigi Buffon after the 2-1 win over Manchester City.

Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri has admitted that his side were indebted to the "extraordinary" Gianluigi Buffon after the 2-1 victory over Manchester City.

It looked like last season's finalists were heading for defeat in their opening Group D fixture before Mario Mandzukic and Alvaro Morata completed a fightback as Juventus came from behind to clinch all three points.

After falling behind to a Giorgio Chiellini own goal, Allegri claims that saves made by Buffon before the equaliser were key to the win.

"We should give the credit to the players – it wasn't easy but we did what we had to do. We could have done better in the first half, we did not concede that much ground and Buffon was extraordinary. In the second half we were better, especially up front," the Juventus boss told reporters.

"This is a result my players deserve. We could have conceded the second goal but Buffon saved it and then we got our first goal."

Juventus will continue their bid for a first Serie A win of the campaign when they visit Genoa on Sunday.
