Frank Lampard 'could have joined Los Angeles Galaxy'

Frank Lampard hints that he was offered the opportunity to join Los Angeles Galaxy two years ago, but turned the move down as "it wasn't the right time".

Frank Lampard has hinted that he was given the chance to join Los Angeles Galaxy several years ago, but turned the move down as "it wasn't the right time".

The 37-year-old will be lining up for New York City FC on Sunday against the Californian side, which counts former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard among its recruits.

Lampard told BBC Sport: "I had a couple of opportunities a couple of years ago, but they didn't happen in the end. It wasn't the right time for me then and New York was coming round and it's certainly the right time for me now."

Lampard began his career at West Ham United in 1995 before moving to Chelsea in 2001, where he spent 13 seasons.
