Late Gonzalez goal earns Galaxy win
Omar Gonzalez scores a stoppage-time winner for the Los Angeles Galaxy to secure them a 2-1 victory in their MLS clash against Sporting Kansas City.

Omar Gonzalez struck in the 94th minute to fire the Los Angeles Galaxy to a 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City in their MLS clash.

The home side opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Stefan Ishizaki fired a powerful strike at goal that Luis Marin could only parry, and Baggio Husidic reacted to bury the rebound into the bottom corner.

Los Angeles nearly doubled their advantage as Ishizaki raided down the right flank and whipped a cross into the box which Alan Gordon met with power, but his effort went just wide of the target.

Krisztian Nemeth brought Kansas City level as he got in behind the Galaxy defence and maintained his composure to fire past Jaime Penedo.

Nemeth almost put his side in front as Benny Feilhaber lifted a free kick into the box and the forward got free of his marker to head at goal, but his effort went just over the bar.

Sporting pressed forward again towards the end of the half and Marcel de Jong drilled a strike towards the bottom corner, but Penedo was able to make the save down low to his right.

In the second half, the Galaxy responded to the pressure from the visitors as Juninho came close to putting them ahead with a strike from distance that forced Marin into a good stop.

Los Angeles upped the ante as Gyasi Zardes fired a low ball across the face of goal that was back-heeled towards goal by Bradford Jamieson, but Marin made a crucial reaction save.

The game looked to be heading towards a draw, but Gonzalez won his side the points in the dying seconds as he diverted Juninho's cross past Marin with the aid of a deflection.
