Molson Coors will end their sponsorship of the League Cup at the end of the current season.

The Football League will begin the search for a new sponsor after it failed to renegotiate a new deal with Molson Coors.

The beer company has sponsored the competition for 14 years and will continue to do so until the end of the current campaign.

"This is the first time in 14 years that this sponsorship has been available in the marketplace and we look forward to offering potential sponsors the rare opportunity to put their brand on one of domestic football's major competitions," said the Football League's Greg Clarke.

"The growth in popularity of English football on the world stage, which has led to the League Cup being broadcast in more than 150 countries, means that this is also a sponsorship with global appeal."

Prior to current sponsor Carling, Worthington was branded on the trophy between 1998 and 2003.
