The Championship outfit are in the market for a new boss following the decision to part company with Neil Warnock yesterday afternoon.
A handful of managers have been linked with the Elland Road vacancy, but McDermott is among the leading contenders, according to Sky Sports News.
McDermott was sacked by Premier League side Reading three weeks ago.
