Neil Warnock believes that Leeds United will have a long list of candidates to replace him at Elland Road by the end of the season.

Former Leeds United boss Neil Warnock believes that the Championship club will have a list of contenders for the managerial vacancy.

The 64-year-old left his role at Elland Road yesterday following the side's 2-1 defeat to Derby County.

"I think it was always mutual, I always said I was going to leave if we didn't get promotion this year and I didn't want another year a long way away from my family," Warnock told Sky Sports News. "Yesterday was the end of line with regards to getting in the playoffs, which I was disappointed by.

"I don't think they've got anybody definitely that they'd like to appoint, I think there's a few and a few more by the end of the season that will crop up. [The owners] are not really football people, but they mean well and they're aware of the quality we need now. It just wasn't to be."

Former Reading boss Brian McDermott has emerged as the bookmakers' favourite for the role.
