Leicester City boss Dean Smith reveals that Kelechi Iheanacho will be out of action for a number of weeks.

Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho has been ruled out for a number of weeks with a muscle tear.

Iheanacho sustained the injury during the build-up to Jamie Vardy's equaliser in Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road.

The Nigeria international pulled up but still managed to get his pass off to James Maddison, who went on to set up Vardy.

Following scans of the injury, it has been revealed that the 26-year-old has suffered a muscle tear.

Speaking ahead of Monday's Premier League six-pointer against Everton, Leicester boss Dean Smith indicated that Iheanacho is in a race against time to return before the end of the season.

"He's not great," Smith told reporters. "He's got a tear in his adductor muscle. It puts him out for a number of weeks. It's significant enough.

"It's not going to rule him out until the end of the season, there's five games to go. But it's going to be tough to get him back. Hopefully we can.

"He's disappointed obviously. He'd just scored two goals in two games and was putting in a good performance. It's unfortunate for him. It's a blow."

Smith revealed that Jonny Evans is set to return to training on Saturday, and he also provided an update on Ricardo Pereira, who is recovering from a hamstring injury.

"Jonny, we're hoping to have training tomorrow," Smith added. "He hasn't trained for a couple of weeks.

"He's had a viral infection and then a calf injury. We're hoping he'll be back on the grass tomorrow. Ricky's still progressing nicely, so he should be back soon, we're hoping."

After losing his first game in charge against Manchester City, Smith has picked up four points from his last two games.

Leicester still remain in a perilous position, with the Foxes sitting in the relegation zone and one point adrift from safety.
