Jamie Vardy admits that he is desperate to score against Sheffield Wednesday this weekend after the Owls released him as a youngster.

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has admitted that he has an extra incentive to score against Sheffield Wednesday when the Foxes travel to Hillsborough this weekend.

Vardy was released by Wednesday as a youngster and contemplated giving up on the game before returning to non-league action.

The 25-year-old worked his way back up the football pyramid before signing for Leicester in a £1m summer transfer.

He has declared that scoring against the club he supported as a child would be a memorable achievement.

"I am a Wednesday fan and all of my mates are too but, even so, I am really looking forward to this game," he said.

"When Wednesday released me, it was a tough decision to take and I stopped playing for a while. They let me go because they said I wasn't big enough so I just stopped completely for a year.

"If I get the chance to play, I shall be doing my utmost to get on that scoresheet."

Leicester travel to Wednesday in confident mood after thrashing Ipswich Town 6-0 last weekend to move into the playoff places.
