Jamie Vardy: 'Sunderland win is one step closer to title'

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy says that his side's 2-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light takes them one step closer to winning the Premier League title.

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has said that this afternoon's 2-0 win over Sunderland is another step towards winning the Premier League title this season.

Vardy scored both goals at the Stadium of Light to fire his side 10 points clear at the top of the table and within three victories of securing their first ever league title.

The England international admitted that his side were forced to grind out the result, but insists that they cannot yet afford to take their foot off the pedal.

"Coming off, the Sunderland fans were clapping us as well which is brilliant," he told Sky Sports News.

"It was a great game, we knew it would be tough but managed to grind it out. It's a step closer to possibly winning the league.

"We'll enjoy this for the rest of the day and then get back to training for the next week."

The result was the first time since 1963-64 that Leicester have picked up five top-flight wins in a row, and the first time they have ever kept five consecutive clean sheets in the top division.
