Steven Gerrard has said that England have learned their lessons from past international tournaments and will go into Euro 2012 with realistic expectations.

The Liverpool midfielder admitted that the Three Lions have been guilty of complacency in the past, but insisted that they can cause an "upset" at this summer's tournament.

"Maybe in the last two or three tournaments, as a group of players, we've maybe thought we were better than what we were," The Mirror quotes Gerrard as saying.

"Sometimes we thought we only had to turn up with England because we had a lot of top players. But we just haven't performed, we haven't clicked, we haven't gelled."

"I think this time there's a lot of realism about. Expectations are maybe down because we've not performed and we haven't delivered in the previous tournaments. That doesn't mean we're not going to go into this tournament with belief and confidence that we can cause an upset."

England will take on Norway this Saturday in a warm-up friendly ahead of the finals next month.
