Jamie Carragher confirms that he will retire at the end of the season, despite calls for him to play on for another year.

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has reiterated that will retire at the end of the season.

Since announcing his intention to retire on February 7, Carragher has enjoyed an extended run in the side and has started Liverpool's last seven games.

His form has prompted many fans and pundits to call for the player to make a U-turn, but he insists that he will retire in May.

Carragher told the Liverpool Echo: "I made my decision and nothing that's happened since has changed my mind about that.

"People say because I'm playing I should carry on for another year. But in fact being back in the team only confirms for me that I've made the right decision.

"I want to go out on a high, proving I can still perform at that level. I can't think of a better way to go out."

In his 16 years at the club, Carragher has made 728 appearances for the Reds.
