Philippe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge impress Danny Murphy

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy praises the recent performances of Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has praised Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge for their performances this weekend.

Sturridge scored the only goal of the game as the Reds beat Stoke City yesterday, while Coutinho was also impressive in the contest.

"If we can stop talking about Luis Suarez for five minutes and focus on Sturridge and Coutinho," Murphy told talkSPORT. "Those two were fantastic.

"Sturridge seems to get better. We talk about confidence and that lad doesn't lack in that area. He shoots from anywhere and he's got skill to beat a man.

"Every time [Coutinho] got in the right position, his passes were correct, he made the right choices and could have scored a couple himself."

Liverpool's next game is a trip to Aston Villa on Saturday.
