David Ginola is to sue Gerard Houllier after the former Liverpool boss called the former Newcastle United winger a "bastard" in his new book.

Houllier has attacked Ginola on numerous occasions over an incident in 1993 which saw France fail to qualify for the 1994 World Cup.

The former Newcastle winger lost possession to allow Bulgaria to score a decisive goal in qualifying and stop Houllier's French team progressing to the finals in the USA.

"I want the right to forget," said Ginola. "I take my share of the responsibility of the elimination but to say I committed a crime against the team is to make the French believe I am the only one to blame for this collective disaster.

"It is time to stay 'Stop', both for my children and family. I feel that my whole life has been summed up by 10 seconds."

Ginola is suing for £4,500 over what he believes is "public injury and defamation" against him when the case starts on Wednesday, April 4.
