Sean Dyche: 'Jon Flanagan unfazed by lack of playing time'

Burnley manager Sean Dyche admits that Jon Flanagan faces real competition to earn a starting spot at Turf Moor, but believes the youngster is relishing the battle.

Sean Dyche has insisted that Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan is "enjoying" his loan spell with Burnley, despite featuring just once for the club.

The 23-year-old, who joined the Clarets on a season-long loan in August, has been made to settle for a solitary run-out so far - a 1-0 defeat to Accrington Stanley in the EFL Cup.

Despite his lack of minutes, Dyche claims Flanagan is settling in well at Turf Moor and hinted that more games could be on the horizon for the full-back.

"There is a good competition there," the Lancashire Telegraph quotes him as saying. "Flanners has fitted in well here and he's getting back to real fitness and sharpness, it takes a long time, we've seen it with our lads.

"He'd been out for a long time. He's enjoying it, he wants to play of course but he's enjoying what we offer here."

Dyche also denied suggestions that he was required to play Flanagan in a set number of matches as part of the loan agreement with Liverpool.
