Roberto Firmino says that he is fully aware of the similarities between his goal against Manchester City and "legend" Robbie Fowler's against Manchester United in 1995.

Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino has admitted that he is delighted with recent comparisons to Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler.

Firmino has already reached 18 goals for the season in all competitions, arguably the pick of which came in the memorable 4-3 win over Manchester City last month.

The 26-year-old lofted the ball over opposition keeper Ederson's reach in a near-identical fashion to Fowler's against Manchester United more than two decades prior.

Asked about the similarities between the two strikes, Firmino told Liverpool's official website: "I saw the comparisons with Fowler's goal because I was sent an Instagram example.

"I was very happy when I was compared to him. He is a legend, he was an excellent player, and that left me very happy and pleased to see my goal being compared to his.

"When I don't score, I feel a bit sad. I always enjoy scoring for my team and I always plan to do my best and try and help the team with goals. That makes me very happy because I am know I am helping the team when I score. I intend to score as many goals as I can to continue helping us to win."

Eleven of Firmino's goals this season have come in the Premier League, placing him seventh in the top-scorers chart.
